As Managing Director in the Communications Sector for Microsoft, Steve Zimba is responsible for driving Microsoft’s strategy for the telecommunications market. Specifically, Zimba is focused on developing, marketing, and delivering robust, end-to-end software solutions to network service providers and network equipment providers across the wireline, wireless and cable industry segments.
Zimba has 20 years of experience in the telecommunications and technology industries. For the past 7 years, Zimba was a director of strategy and business development with BellSouth, a major U.S.-based telecommunications service provider, where he developed the company’s next generation IP-based communications and entertainment services including voice over IP (VoIP), unified communications, converged multi-media broadband services, and emerging wireless/wireline communications platforms. Zimba was also a key member of BellSouth’s managed services product group and led the creation of a managed storage services product line.
Prior to BellSouth, Zimba held a variety of senior management positions at both software and consulting services firms with responsibility for creation of new products, delivery of customer solutions, and management of business operations.
Zimba holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and policy studies and a master’s degree in public finance from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University.
